**Note - The World's Longest Yard Sale (also known as The 127 Sale) is a 4-day event. The dates will be determined each year by the First Thursday of the month of August. The event will take place Thursday to Sunday for 4 days of yard sale heaven!

**Please drive with caution and be alert of the others around you. The month of August is usually very warm in the deep South so pack plenty of water and don't forget the sunscreen. We can't wait to see you!!

Travel more than 650-miles of scenic beauty and see tons of yard sales. Get started on your journey by traveling the 93- mile Lookout Mountain Parkway route from Gadsden, Alabama to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the most "scenic rural America" in the United States. Alabama has more than 1,000 yard sale vendors alone! You will find everything from antiques, collectibles, furniture, dishwares, fresh garden produce, homemade jams and jellies, food vendors, live entertainment and so much more. Continue with the yard sale, following the U.S. 127 Corridor from Chattanooga, TN to West Unity, OH for another 550 miles of yard sale bargains.  When combined, the Lookout Mountain Parkway and the 127 Corridor have had as many as 5,000 vendors lined along the scenic yard sale route in past World's Longest Yard Sale on Lookout Mountain in Alabamayears and the year 2009 promises to be even bigger.

Residents of the Lookout Mountain Parkway invite you to spend some time touring the area and enjoying the hospitality of our people. Spend the night in one of our many Bed and Breakfast Inns, State Parks or other cabin rentals located along the Parkway. View scenic vistas and majestic waterfalls, see deer and cattle grazing side by side in rolling hills and farmland.  Come travel the Lookout Mountain Parkway.         "America's most Scenic Shopping Mall!!"

Directions - South to North:
Yard sale begins at the Noccalula Falls Park in Gadsden, Alabama on top of Lookout Mountain. Follow Tabor Road, across from Noccalula Falls. Stay on this road and it will become Alabama 176. Follow 176 to the Dogtown Community and stay straight through the 4-way stop. The road then becomes DeKalb County 89. Stay on 89 through communities such as Five Points, Fort Payne, Fischer, DeSoto State Park and on into Mentone, Alabama. From Mentone turn right at the caution light onto Alabama 117 and follow into Georgia where it becomes Georgia Road #48. You will stay straight a short distance before turning left at another caution light on GA 157, then left on 136, right on 189 then right on 157 again. This carries you directly in front of Rock City where you travel down Lookout Mountain and pick up TN 27 to the U.S. 127 Corridor for the remainder of the yard sale where it ends in West Unity, OH. (The road winds around a little in Chattanooga as you make your way to the 127 Corridor. Follow Ochs Hwy. off of Lookout Mountain to Tennessee Ave. to Broad St. to Hwy 27 to the U.S. Hwy. 127)

Although the Yard Sale officially goes from Gadsden to West Unity, feel free to jump on board anywhere in between. Lots of unique items, junk and antiques await you from one end to the other and all points in-between. If you choose to follow the route from North to South, simply reverse the directions above.  Again, the Chattanooga area gets a little confusing, so we have included the following additional directions if you are traveling North to South to help you get from US 127 up onto the Lookout Mountain Parkway:

Coming down off Signal Mountain on US127, watch for a right angle turn onto US 27 which takes you over the river to Exit 1A. Take MLK east for two blocks to a right on Broad Street and it is straight several miles to the foot of Lookout Mountain.  At the foot there are two over head signs, the left directs you by the Incline Railway and to Rock City via Tennessee Ave and Ochs Hwy where there is a Lookout Mountain Parkway Sign. At the top of the highway you can turn left to Rock City or stay straight onto SR 157 then to GA 189 that leads on to Covenant College and nearly 100 miles of Lookout Mountain Parkway.

The other routes up the mountain follow the right overhead sign to Ruby Falls. This follows US11 around the foot of the mountain to left on SR 148 up the mountain, past Ruby Falls and on to where it becomes GA 189 and on to Covenant College and the Lookout Mountain Parkway. If you miss the SR148 turn at the foot, continue on US11 about a mile to SR318 and a Lookout Mountain Parkway Sign that leads up to SR148 and Ruby Falls.

Lookout Mountain Parkway Association feels everyone should have the easiest route to the Parkway and down to the valley, therefore we have listed the following "Gateways" to lead you there:
The Trenton “Gateway to the Parkway” is GA 136 East
The Lafayette “Gateway to the Parkway” is GA 136 West
The Valley Head “Gateway to the Parkway” is AL 117 East

The Summerville “Gateway to the Parkway” is GA 48 West
The Fort Payne “Gateway to the Parkway”  is AL 35 East
The Collinsville “Gateway to the Parkway”  is AL 68  East
The Centre AL  “Gateway to the Parkway” is US 411 & AL 68 West
The Gadsden “Gateway To the Parkway”  is AL 211 to Noccalula Falls & CR 89 North

*Note - The Gadsden to Chattanooga route is called the Lookout Mountain Parkway and will bear green signs that state this. Reader's Digest named the Parkway as one of America's most Scenic Drives.

Some common questions and answers about the longest yardsale in the world:

  • Q. How do I become a VENDOR?  A. Anyone can be a vendor by simply having a yard sale in their yard, at their business or setting up in designated vendor places. Many communities have different places were vendors from within and outside of that town or city can set up a booth. The main thing is to be sure you have permission from the land owner to set up a booth. Usually the more the merrier therefore clusters of vendors are commonly found along the route.

  • Q. What can I SELL? A. Almost anything! Popular is junk, antiques, collectibles, dishes and glassware, to farm implements, food items, produce and more. Some things to consider however are business licenses and health department permits. Each town has different rules and regulations so be sure to check with the local City Hall and Health Department where you set up your booth for any licenses or permits you may need to purchase.

  • Q. WHERE are the YARD SALES? A. Yard sales can be found along the route at homes located on the designated route, in business parking lots, along side streets adjacent to the route, in wide open fields and pastures (remember, these roads pass through beautiful rural areas with farms and some of the most awesome scenery you will find anywhere), and basically anywhere people can find to set up. Some areas will have large numbers of vendors in one group, others may be scattered  and in some instances you may travel for several miles or more without seeing a yard sale because of the distances between homes on the country roads.

  • Q. Where does it BEGIN and where do I PARK? A. The current length of the World's Longest Yard Sale takes you from Gadsden, AL to Defiance, OH. You might decide to start at the southern end and travel north or right the opposite. You may decide to jump on board anywhere in between. Parking may be limited in some areas to virtually impossible in other places to ample. It depends on the area. The yard sale routes become narrow country roads in many places but don't let that discourage you. VERY IMPORTANT - be cautious of the driver in front of you and pedestrians on the roadway - be patient and a parking space will present itself.

  • Q. What TIME do the SALES BEGIN? A. Each vendor is on their own and can choose when they want to begin but typically vendors are active by 8:00 a.m. and operate until late in the evening.

  • Q. Can I SHIP items home? A. Definitely! You found something you just had to have but don't have room to load in your vehicle? Many communities have shipping centers and of course Post Offices. They will be glad to work with you to get your items home so you can continue on the yard sale route. A business called the Package Store in Fort Payne, Alabama, located on the US Highway 11, is just one such place ready to assist you. If in Fort Payne and you need to ship items home contact the Package Store at 256-845-PACK (7225) or stop by at 601 Gault Ave. N (AKA Hwy 11)

  • Q. WHO ORGANIZES this event? A. The event was created by tourism officials in Tennessee, but rely on community support from each town and/or county tourism and chamber office to promote the event in their regions. The success of the sales depend on coordination from each community.

  • Q. What does it COST to participate? A. There is no fee to participate however some vendor spaces may charge a nominal rental fee to allow you to set up a booth.

  • Q. Is there an ADMISSION FEE? A. NO. You should never have to pay admission. The event were not set up for that purpose.

  • Q. How long will it take me to get from point A to point B? A. That depends on how disciplined you are and how much ground you want to travel in one day. If you have to stop at every yard sale then it may take you awhile. It is easy enough to "cruise" the yard sales and travel a modest distance but it also easy to get caught up in the event and spend 3 to 4 hours in one area. Pre-Plan. Decide in advance how much time you want to spend in each area and try to stick with your plan. But most of all - have a good time and enjoy the sights and sounds.

  • Q. Are there HOTELS near the yard sales and should I make RESERVATIONS? A. Yes, there are plenty of accommodations located along the way. Making reservations is a wise decision but you have to have a plan and be disciplined to make your destination for the night. Getting a room may be difficult if you wait too late in the day to find a place but not impossible.
